3 coins to represent lives |
Object |
To be the last player with a life and win the kitty. As an option the runner-up may receive a percentage of the kitty. |
Deal |
Cut for deal. The cards are dealt clockwise, face down and one to each player. After each round the player on the dealer's left becomes the new dealer. |
Preliminaries |
Each player examines his or her card without disclosing it, with the exception that if a King is held it must be turned over immediately and placed on the table. |
Play |
The player or, in the event of a tie, the players with the lowest cards on each round will lose a life (Aces are low). Play begins with the person to the immediate left of the dealer examining his or her card with a view to either sticking (if a high or highish card is held) or swapping the card with the one concealed by the player on the immediate left. This player will then have the same decision, that is, to swap with the player on the left or stick if the card received from the player on the right is higher than the card given. If the player on the right sticks then the next player decides whether to stick or pass-on the card dealt. An exposed King cannot be changed and the player immediately before the King has to play with the card received from the right hand player or the one dealt if the right hand player has stuck. The dealer, who is the last one to play, usually receives a low card from the right hand player. The dealer, however, has the choice of either electing to play with the card received or cutting another card from the residue of the pack. (If lucky this may not arise if the player to the right has stuck and a high card or king is held by the dealer). Cards are then redealt and play continues until one player is left.
